Steves Sportsman Cafe

Stopped here before heading into Yosemite park. It’s styled like a typical local breakfast place. Tucked away next to the gas station and for some reason GPS took us down by the park around the corner. Once we got inside, no one was there! It was nice to have the place to ourselves and not have to wait. It was around 10:30am so I assume we beat the rush. I got the stuffed pb&j French toast that was fried. Honestly that was just ok, I could’ve gone with some pancakes instead. The loaded hash browns though were amazing! My friend had pancakes and the hash browns also. It filled us up all day and lasted through multiple miles of walking through Yosemite!

what a fantastic stop! we looked at the photos and knew this would be authentic home cooking and it sure was! As a South Carolina native, I was skeptical about grits in California but they were incredible and cheesy! After our meal, we had the opportunity to speak to the owner about recommendations in the area for things to do and he shared some fun stories from his years of owning the cafe and living in the area. Would 100% recommend a stop in.

Apparently. Google maps was leading me to the entirely wrong place earlier. Having actually eaten here I would say that the food is pretty good if a bit expensive. I got a steak sandwich with fried. The steak was good and properly cooked but a bit on the bland side. The fries were okay but also a bit bland. The service was friendly. I'm not sure if I will make the drive to eat here very often but it's a solid choice if you are passing through.

We were lost on the other side of Yosemite, and needed gas and to feed the family. The gas station guy recommended Steve's place next door. He guaranteed we would like anything on the menu there. He was absolutely correct. The food was excellent, the quality was good, and they were nice enough to serve us with less that 30 minutes left to close. To top it off I had ordered the special, Shepherd's pie (excellent all around), and Steve himself comes out and offers for us to take home the rest of the lamb stew used in the dish. I love these local diners for the experiences you get, and the people that go with them. Thank you, Steve and the rest of the great staff that helped us out last night!

This restaurant offers a varies of menu items, all cook to order and a great staff. The decor is very country/cowboy style with lots of history and pride put into the history of the art and photos found on the wall. The back dinning area has locally branded Brandings which is a site to see. Its a must see stop on your way through visiting Yosemite or whatever it is your in the area for.
